JD Wetherspoon has announced plans to launch an exclusive fine dining concept following what the company is calling “an isolated incident of culinary excellence” at its Crawley branch last Tuesday.

The pub chain confirmed that a plate of scampi and chips was served at an appropriate temperature, prompting immediate plans to revolutionise the British dining scene with what CEO Tim Martin described as “premium pub gastronomy for the discerning patron who expects their food to be, at minimum, warm.”

The new venture, titled “The Weathered Spoon,” will offer an elevated menu featuring such luxuries as chips that arrive at the table before going cold, curry that has been microwaved evenly throughout, and the option to have your burger cooked only once.

“We’ve been sitting on this technology for years,” said Helen Richardson, Head of Kitchen Innovation at Wetherspoons. “But we felt the British public wasn’t ready for food that reaches the customer at a temperature above room temperature. Tuesday’s incident proved us wrong. The customer didn’t even send it back.”

The Michelin-inspired menu includes signature dishes such as Duo of Sausage (two sausages, both hot), Deconstructed All Day Breakfast (a full English where all components finish cooking simultaneously), and their showstopping Steak Au Correct Internal Temperature, described as “medium rare, as ordered, not a culinary lottery.”

Early leaked details suggest diners will be treated to complimentary touches including cutlery that matches, glasses without fingerprints, and the revolutionary concept of plates that have been allowed to warm slightly before food is placed upon them.

“This isn’t just about temperature,” explained Martin Davies, a hospitality consultant brought in to advise on the project. “It’s about reimagining what Spoons can be. Imagine walking in and your table isn’t sticky. Imagine ordering a coffee and receiving it in under twenty minutes. These are the kinds of boundary-pushing innovations that earn Michelin recognition.”

The chain has confirmed that bookings for The Weathered Spoon will open next month, with tables available exclusively through a new app that, according to the press release, “works at least sixty percent of the time.” Reservations will require a deposit of £2.50, redeemable against any drink that isn’t Doom Bar.

Industry insiders suggest the move could inspire other budget chains to pursue culinary excellence. Greggs is reportedly considering a concept where sausage rolls are served at a temperature that doesn’t simultaneously burn your mouth and freeze your fillings.

When asked whether the original warm scampi incident was being investigated as potential staff misconduct, Richardson confirmed that the employee responsible had been given additional training to ensure consistency. “We can’t have people just serving hot food willy-nilly,” she said. “There are standards to maintain.”

The first Weathered Spoon location is expected to open in Basingstoke this autumn, assuming planning permission can be secured for the necessary infrastructure upgrades, including functioning air conditioning and a hoover.
